OUR VISION AND VALUES

The history of the fast fashion industry is one of damage and destruction. The harms and hardships range from the environmental costs of textile production to the maltreatment of our workers within the industry. As things currently stand, the fashion industry is among the top polluting industries, making it one of the major contributors to the climate crisis. Fast fashion has many fatal faults.

ALLI was born out of a desire to right some of those wrongs, and mend the wounds of the past. By adopting a more careful and considered approach to design and consumerism, being both socially and environmentally conscious is intrinsic to everything our brand stands for. We pride ourselves in being honest, open, and ethical. Every step of the way - from our sampling process, to production, to the very moment our garments land in the hands of our consumer - we bear sustainability in mind. In that way, our brand serves as an ode to both our planet and our people. Designed for the kind and caring, ALLI strives to seduce you into a world where sustainability and social responsibility is the norm, rather than the exception.

OUR COLLECTIONS

We’re not in the business of fast fashion, so we don’t mass produce. Instead, we prioritise small and limited runs of production which allows us to work at a slower, more sustainable pace. We base our design philosophy on nonseasonal styles that are crafted to withstand the test of time through enduring modernity. Our pieces are born bold, with an essence of ethereal beauty, and an everlasting sense of style, without ever falling into obsolescence. In that way, instead of chasing forever fleeting trends, our pieces are an investment in craftsmanship, individuality, and timelessness. We prioritise quality first, always. If cared for properly, our pieces will serve as the gift that keeps on giving for a long time to come.

We are currently working on shifting towards an even more sustainable model, by relying solely on vintage and deadstock fabrics, and in this way eliminate waste. Deadstock and vintage fabrics are inherently more sustainable because they allow for greater circularity within the industry, and diminishes the pressure on our resources as we would only be using textiles that are already in existence. Keep your eyes peeled, these pieces are gonna be something special.

FABRICS

There are so many fabrics out there that are made from really damaging stuff – oil, plastic, non-renewable fossil fuels. Nasty, we know. Given that the majority the harm done to the environment in the name of fashion occurs pre-production, it’s crucial that we choose our raw materials carefully by sourcing sustainable fabrics. We only ever use natural, organic, and regenerated fabrics which have minimal impacts on our environment. Out of a deep concern for animal welfare and the damaging impacts of the animal agriculture industry, we don’t use animal products of any kind, like leather, wool or fur.

EVERY DETAIL COUNTS

It's no secret that the fashion industry is facing an immense waste problem. We strive for zero-waste whenever we can because we truly believe in a holistic approach to sustainability, taking the impact of every little detail into account. Our aim is to be as mindful as possible with respect to every aspect of our brand, from our fabrics and threads, all the way to our labels and tags.

Our woven brand labels are made from recycled yarns, as opposed to the more commonly used virgin polyester. Additionally, our fabric remnants are reworked into handmade scrunchies to ensure that nothing goes to waste; any unusable offcuts are recycled to create new textiles.

Another one of our zero-waste initiatives is to keep our unnecessary branding pretty low-key when we can. So, our branded hangtags double up as our security label - aka the return tag. They're also made entirely from biodegradable paper, and are embedded with wildflower meadow seeds. All you need to do is plant them and they will disintegrate, leaving no toxic waste behind, and soon they’ll bloom into delicate blossoms.

E-COMMERCE

We are an e-commerce brand. We haven’t invested in a traditional retail space, and we don’t plan on it. It's been estimated that e-commerce uses 30% less energy in total than traditional brick-and-mortar businesses, so it does offer up the opportunity for more sustainable consumption.

MAGIC MAKERS

It's not just a challenge in terms of sustainability that we need to champion, it's also an ethical one. We only ever partner with manufacturers that have safe working conditions and engage in socially responsible practices. Our suppliers and factories are located across the UK and Europe and so, in terms of their working environment and policies, they are duty bound to comply with strict yet fair UK and EU laws. We do not under any circumstances endorse unethical and unsafe labour because, not only do we want to empower the people that wear our pieces, but we also want to empower those who make them. It is, after all, a labour of love.

The goal is to keep things local, so very soon we will be moving the entirety of our production to right here in the UK.

SHIPPING AND DELIVERY

We are very conscious of our carbon footprint, and so we’re committed to keeping it as low as possible. In an effort to minimise our environmental impact, our stock is driven over to our London atelier, where it's stored, wrapped and packed, from our Latvian studio, where it's manufactured. Although this takes longer than the more conventional counterpart of air freight, air freight leaves a much greater carbon footprint. We put the slow in slow fashion. In addition to this, we're super happy to offer carbon neutral, climate compensation shipping for all of our orders.

PACKAGING

We never use plastic, ever, that's a promise. We rely solely on sustainable solutions whenever we can, and opt for low-impact alternatives that are made from recycled and recyclable materials. Our delivery boxes are made from an absolute minimum of 70% recycled materials, and they are 100% recyclable. So too is our tissue paper - made from 100% recycled materials - and it’s also recyclable, biodegradable and compostable. Further, we use a water-activated tape which is, again, made from 100% recycled forest stewardship council certified paper, not plastic. FSC certifications are intended to certify products that are sourced from sustainably managed forests. Lastly, our branded stickers are printed on acid free paper, also FSC certified, with an eco-friendly soy-based ink, as opposed to the more commonly used petroleum-based ink.

WE'RE NOT PERFECT... BE PATIENT WITH US.

There’s always room for improvement, so we are actively and incessantly exploring different ways in which we can better ourselves as a business and as a brand. For now, we have two main areas for improvement which are at the forefront of our minds; inclusivity and circularity.

It’s important for us to recognise from the outset and take accountability for the fact, as things currently stand, we’ve failed to be an inclusive brand. But we are far from where we want to be. We want to be as accommodating as possible for people of all shapes and sizes. Our hope is that, with each new design launch, we’ll be able to incorporate more and more sizes into our collection. Whilst we know that there are too few sustainable brands out there, we understand that this especially the case when it comes to having a more inclusive range of sizes; that needs to change. We’ve got a lot of work cut out for us but, rest assured, we won’t stop until we get there.

We also know that no brand is as sustainable as it could be until it’s circular. After all, the future of fashion is circular. This requires reusing the clothes that are already in your wardrobes and already in existence, which reduces the amount of garments that are forced to live out the rest of their lengthy lives in landfills. It also requires that we use materials that are already available to us, without demanding newness. Circularity does not require renewed resources and, in that way, it minimises and eliminates waste. So, to ensure that our pieces are intrinsically sustainable, we will soon be relying solely on vintage and deadstock fabrics. Make sure to sign up to our newsletter to be the first to know about this shift, it's not something you're gonna want to sleep on!

Our story is still in the making, and while we grow as a brand, we hope to grow with intention.

Thank you for joining us on this ride of life.
